About Belguardo Rosato
Like it or not, Robert Parker is considered one of the great "wine gurus" and he is capable of sinking or making any winery in the world succeed with his ratings. A wine rating above 90 points ensures a triumph on international markets. So when, in 2009, he described Belguardo Rosato as "one of the best rosé winesin Italy", there were no reservations. The Mazzei family (a well-known Tuscan surname) who had just acquired the Belguardo estate in the southern Maremma region, strengthened the cultivation of the vines they had planted in the area and invested in research and facilities.
The secret of the success of this Belguardo rosé made from Sangiovese and Syrah lies in a very successful tandem between the Mazzei brothers' winemaker, Luca Biffi, and the famous consultant Carlo Ferrini. Together they made a thorough analysis of the soil and took advantage of the cool winds of the Mediterranean (which is less than 10 kilometers away), ensuring the right temperature fluctuations between day and night. Once the grapes have been harvested by hand in small weekly intervals, destemmed and crushed, maceration takes place with only 1 hour of skin contact for the Syrah grapes and 2 hours for the Sangiovese. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at low temperature and with malolactic fermentation suppressed. The wines from the two grapes are then blended and the final cuvée ages for 3 more months.
Undoubtedly, the success of Belguardo Rosato lies in the equal alliance between the Sangiovese grapes from the original Belguardo vines and the special Syrah clones from the Northern Rhône (France). A perfect marriage which Parker himself has given his blessing for.
2020 |
Belguardo Rosato 2020 is a fresh rosé wine with aromas of fresh red fruit intermingled with floral notes of rose and cherry. On the palate it is rich, intense and refreshing. An infinitely smooth, well-structured and pleasantly fruity wine, with a very addictive saline finish. |
