About Álvaro Domecq Manzanilla La Jaca

In the world of wine, certain names resonate profoundly, and one such name is Álvaro Domecq Romero, who in 1988 took the helm of the legendary Bodega Pilar Aranda, one of the most esteemed in the Marco de Jerez, synonymous with quality and excellence for centuries. A legacy that Álvaro Domecq has proudly upheld, consistently championing tradition, quality, and uniqueness in his wines.

Yet beyond wine, his true passion has always been horses. So much so that, in 1975, he founded the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art in Jerez, cementing his influence in the equestrian world and leaving an indelible mark on the history of Spanish equestrian art. Today, both passions intertwine in a collection of wines where each pays tribute to a horse that has shaped his life.

One such wine is Álvaro Domecq Manzanilla La Jaca, crafted from the palomino grape variety, originating from the albariza soils, rich in limestone and clay, essential elements for retaining moisture and enabling the vine to withstand the scorching summers of Jerez. The harvest takes place between late August and early September, with fermentation occurring in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Upon completion of this phase, the finest and most delicate musts are selected and subsequently fortified with wine alcohol to reach an alcohol content of 15.5% ABV. The wine then undergoes biological ageing in Sanlúcar de Barrameda for 4 years, adhering to the traditional solera and criaderas system, in 500-litre American oak casks.

The result is a fresh, elegant, and vibrant manzanilla, encapsulating the Atlantic breeze and the soul of the Marco de Jerez. A tribute to the noble and free spirit of the horses that have accompanied Álvaro Domecq's life. Indeed, like great wines and magnificent horses, Álvaro Domecq Manzanilla La Jaca embodies character, legacy, and pure emotion.
