Red wine from designation D.O. Ribera del Duero

Discover the best red wines produced from the Ribera del Duero designation

Since its recognition as a Denomination of Origin in 1982, Ribera del Duero has experienced a meteoric rise to join the elite of the wine world. In this selection, we invite you to explore one of the most prestigious regions globally, where the altitude of the plateau and an extreme climate with thermal contrasts create wines with legendary structure, colour, and ageing potential.

What defines Ribera del Duero red wine?

The character of these wines is shaped by three fundamental pillars:

  • The Tempranillo grape: locally known as tinto fino or tinta del país, it reigns supreme. In this terroir, it develops a thicker skin than in other regions, resulting in wines with more body, greater tannin concentration, and an intense black berry fruit profile.

  • The extreme climate: hot summers followed by very cold nights allow for slow and balanced ripening, preserving a natural acidity that imparts freshness and longevity to the wine.

  • Mastery of wood: Ribera del Duero excels in the use of barrels. Here, ageing not only imparts notes of vanilla, toast, and spices but also tames the grape's power to transform it into pure elegance.

Wineries and profiles you will find

Our selection ranges from the great historical icons to the auteur projects revolutionising the area:

  • The pillars of legend: names like Vega Sicilia, Tinto Pesquera, or Dominio de Pingus, which have set the standard of quality and prestige for the region on a global scale.

  • Modern classics: wineries such as Pago de los Capellanes, Aalto, Alión, or Hacienda Monasterio, offering reds with exceptional balance and finesse.

  • The expression of terroir and avant-garde: projects like Dominio del Águila that are committed to reviving old vineyards and traditional methods to offer wines with a distinctly mineral and fresh identity.

  • Wines to enjoy today: from the oak-aged and crianza wines of Emilio Moro or Arzuaga, ideal for any table, to small-scale auteur productions that surprise with their authenticity.
