For a wine to be classified as Vino Gran Reserva, it must undergo a minimum of 60 months of ageing, with at least 24 of those months in barrels. This requirement is reduced for whites and rosés, which are far less common yet equally captivating, where the ageing period is shortened to 48 months, with 6 of those months in the bottle.

Just as not every palate is equipped to appreciate this type of wine, not every vintage possesses the qualities necessary to produce a Vino Gran Reserva. In fact, Vinos Gran Reserva are only achieved from exceptional harvests that have the potential to evolve over time. The result is a robust wine with character, where the wood will have shaped both the aroma and flavour to its liking, even influencing its colour, revealing spicy notes and hints of liquorice, leather, and vanilla.
