About Verónica Ortega Quite

Verónica Ortega Quite is a red wine crafted by Verónica Ortega in Valtuille de Abajo (León) within the D.O. Bierzo.

Verónica Ortega, hailing from Cádiz, honed her skills in some of the finest wineries in Burgundy and Priorat. Drawn by the terroir of Bierzo, she decided to settle in Valtuille de Abajo to begin producing her own wines, thus embarking on her most personal project.

Verónica Ortega predominantly works with old Mencía vineyards, adhering to ecological principles. The winemaking process is artisanal, involving spontaneous fermentations with wild yeasts and low doses of sulphites. The wines are true to the terroir, exhibiting character and distinct personality.

Verónica Ortega Quite is a wine made from Mencía sourced from vineyards in Valtuille, over 80 years old, with clay-sandy soils rich in minerals.

The harvest is conducted manually in 15kg boxes. In the winery, the grapes are destemmed before fermenting in stainless steel tanks, with a gentle extraction. The maceration lasts around 10 days. The ageing process spans 8 months, with 50% in used oak barrels and the other 50% in 800-litre clay vessels.

This vintage, the first in which Quite has slept through two winters in barrel, arrives with a more refined freshness and an instantly captivating fluidity.
