About Trossos Vells

Trossos Vells is a red wine from the D.O Montsant and produced by Alfredo Arribas - Portal del Priorat. This wine is made using only the Cariñena grape variety. 

Trossos Vells originates from very old wines, more than 60 years of age, distributed over 9 plots of land. These are located in Masroig and Marçà, in the center of Montsant.

The climate is very dry and the soils are mainly clay and sand, furthermore, very poor in organic material.

The harvest is performed by the end of September and the beginning of October all by hand and using small containers so that the grapes don't prematurely start fermenting.

Trossos Vells, after the winemaking processes, the wine rests for 12 months in 225 and 300 litre French oak barrels.

This vintage of Trossos Vells has been widely recognised by critics in recent years, after having obtained scores by both Parker and Peñin.

2020

Trossos Vells 2020 emerges as a red wine with a fruity nuance and a pronounced structure. Bringing it to the nose, one is greeted by a bouquet of intense aromas of ripe plums and blackberries, interwoven with a sweetness reminiscent of liqueur, complemented by hints of spices and a smoky undertone from its time in oak barrels. On the palate, it strikes a balance between warmth and freshness, with a sweetness that beckons one to take another sip. Flavours of ripe red and black fruits meld with a subtle mineral and spicy edge, characteristic of the Carignan grape, delivering a rich and concentrated experience.
2019 Trossos Vells 2019 is a red wine that, on the nose, exhibits a bouquet of dark berries nuanced with floral undertones. There are hints of earthy and herbal strokes. On the palate, it is characterized by an elegant rusticity, with lively tannins and a delightful complexity. This red wine is smooth and enjoyable, showcasing a vibrant Carignan, distinct from the rest.
2018

Trossos Vells 2018 is a supple red wine exuding floral violet aromatics, nuances of ripe fruit, and earthy undertones. On the palate, it is delightful, profound, and forthright. A wine characterized by its luminous acidity, vivacious tannins, and an extended finish with mineral inflections.
2012 Fresh on the palate, with light tannins. Long and deep with undertones of its ageing process.

Attractive dark cherry.

Intense and concentrated. It presents aromas of blackberry, violets and a touch of chocolate. Highlights of undertones typically found from the time spent in the barrel.
