About Triay Godello

If you've ever wondered why some wines seem to carry an air of nobility, Bodegas Triay provides the answer. And we're not just talking about their elegant bottles or immaculate labels, but about history with a capital H. During the early decades of the 20th century, the family's wines were already making their way directly to palaces. The reason? The brother of Purificación Méndez, five generations ago, was the archpriest of the royal family during the reign of Alfonso XIII, and yes, he personally delivered the wines to the king. Thus, even before tastings, reviews, or awards existed, the winery already knew what it was to rub shoulders with high society... and emerge triumphant.

But don't think that Bodegas Triay rests on dusty memories and old photographs. In 2004, Purificación García and her husband, Antonio Á. Triay, decided to give a modern twist to the family tradition. With enthusiasm, passion, and a touch of madness, they built a new winery just 500 metres from the original, blending centuries-old knowledge with state-of-the-art technology. Their mission is to create high-quality wines, with limited production and a unique personality, because wine, like family, must have character.

Today, the winery boasts a capacity of 40,000 litres and 7 hectares of vineyards spread across slopes in the DOP Monterrei. Their children, Iván and Lucía Álvarez, are already part of the team. They ensure that the family history not only remains alive but does so with style and a contemporary touch.

Evidence of this is Triay Godello, a white wine that exudes pure personality. Its grapes come from their own vineyards, tended almost as if they were jewels. Everything is cultivated by hand, with care and tradition. The “Terreo” estate, which contributes half of the production, has vines grafted 20 years ago from century-old godello, adapted as if custom-made for the granitic-sandy soil with areas of clay and the Atlantic climate of the region, with a hint of continental influence to keep it interesting.

The harvest is a spectacle of double selection: first in the vineyard, only the most beautiful grapes pass the test, and then in the winery, before destemming, another check to ensure everything is perfect. Fermentation occurs at 15°C in stainless steel, and then the wine rests for 3 months on its lees, following processes that their ancestors already practised, because if something works, why change it? Before bottling, it is stabilised and filtered, and it's ready.

Triay Godello is a fresh, clean wine with character, steeped in tradition and enjoyed with pleasure. A playful nod to the family that, for over 180 years, continues to prove that one can be classic and modern at the same time.



 

2024

Triay Godello 2024 exhibits a straw-yellow hue with greenish highlights, while on the nose it unfolds a spectrum of aromas including peach, apricot, green apple, and lemon, complemented by delicate floral notes. Upon tasting, it feels smooth and enveloping; its perfectly balanced acidity imparts a pleasant vivacity. The persistence of its fruity flavours lingers, leaving a lasting impression. Recommended for its ability to provide a refreshing experience with a harmonious and elegant structure, characteristic of a well-crafted godello.
