About Jean-Yves Péron I Vicini Barbera

Jean-Yves Péron I Vicini Barbera is a natural red wine made in Piedmont by Jean-Yves Péron with the Barbera variety in the Vin de la communaute Européenne denomination.
 
Jean-Yves Péron is a young winemaker who, after studying oenology in Bordeaux and learning from great natural winemakers like Thierry Allemand and Jean-Louis Grippat in the Rhone Valley and Bruno Schueller in Alsace, returned to his native Savoie in 2004 and recovered old vineyards in the French Alps to produce fresh and vigorous natural wines. In 2017 he started a new project on the other side of the Alps, in Piedmont, in collaboration with Paolo Angelino in Casale Monferrato and Giorgio Barbero in Asti.
 
This partnership resulted in Jean-Yves Péron I Vicini Barbera, a wine made from vines planted in grey and white marl soils and cultivated according to ecological, organic and biodynamic principles. These are old vines with low yields, harvested entirely by hand at the optimum point of ripeness.
 
In the winery, the Jean-Yves Péron I Vicini Barbera grapes macerate with skins for 4 weeks and ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine is then aged for 16 months in used barrels. A non-interventionist vinification that concludes with a wine bottled unfiltered, unclarified and without adding sulphites. 
 
Jean-Yves Péron I Vicini Barbera is a wine made in the Italian Alps. A high altitude red wine that showcases all the intensity and concentration of the Barbera variety in its purest form.
 
2018 Jean-Yves Péron I Vicini Barbera 2018 is a succulent red wine bursting with aromas of red berries, blackberries, cassis, and gentle undertones of leather. On the palate, it is fruit-driven, vibrant, and crisp. This wine is well-constructed with a luminous acidity, pronounced tannins, and a highly agreeable finish.
