It is not merely a great albariño; it is a wholly immersive experience that interconnects landscape, history, and tradition in the heart of the Rías Baixas (Galicia).
Hailing from 100% albariño grapes, La Fillaboa 1898 originates from the historic estate of Bodegas Fillaboa, whose name means “good daughter” in Galician. It is one of the most emblematic viticultural properties in Galicia, undoubtedly the largest in the Pontevedra land registry and among the oldest in the region.
Within the estate, the Monte Alto plot stands out, one of the most distinctive vineyards of the winery. Situated 150 metres above sea level, this plot offers exceptional conditions for cultivating albariño. Its sandy-loam soil, with excellent drainage and abundant pebbles from granite decomposition, allows the vine to express all the mineral and Atlantic character that distinguishes the great wines of the Rías Baixas denomination. After the harvest, the wine remains for 5 years in stainless steel tanks on fine lees. During this period, periodic batonnages are performed, a technique that keeps the lees in suspension. This process prevents oxidation and imparts greater volume, texture, and roundness to the wine, without losing the characteristic freshness of albariño.
