About Tequila Espolon Reposado

In 2007, it was awarded the Gold Medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition and also received a score of 92 points from the Beverage Testing Institute. Not all tequilas can boast such achievements, but Tequila Espolon Reposado certainly can!

Founded in 1998, Destiladora San Nicolás is responsible for producing this spirit, where tradition meets technology. According to legend, tequila was born when lightning struck an agave field during a storm, splitting a plant and revealing the liquid inside. The farmers discovered this miracle and considered it a gift from the gods. Generally, agaves are small plants that take a couple of years to grow until they reach approximately two metres, resembling a giant pineapple. Tequila Espolon Reposado is cultivated in the Jalisco region, specifically in Arandas, where the production process is meticulously respected. 

After the jima, the process of harvesting the agave, the long leaves (known as pencas) are removed to reach the heart of the plant. Here, in this core, are the sugars that will be extracted in a cooking oven to soften the surface and crush this pineapple-like structure. A press is used to extract the must, which will subsequently ferment and be distilled. What truly distinguishes Tequila Espolon Reposado is the nine months it spends maturing in Canadian white oak barrels.
