Dos Lusíadas Pinteivera Tinto is a single-variety red wine made from Touriga Nacional in the Portuguese DOC Douro denomination by Dos Lusíadas.
Under the name Dos Lusíadas, the prestigious French winegrower Michel Chapoutier brings all his knowledge acquired in the Rhone and applies it to the granite-rich soils of the Alto Douro. This is how he achieves mineral and fresh wines with an exquisite structure and concentration at the same time.
Dos Lusíadas Pinteivera Tinto comes from old vines aged between 60 and 80 years old, planted on soils made up of granite sands of variable depth. They enjoy a continental climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters, and are cultivated using a new generation of respectful agriculture. The grapes are manually harvested and placed in 20 kg boxes.
In the winery, Dos Lusíadas Pinteivera Tinto is vinified by pressing the whole bunches and undergoing alcoholic fermentation in 600-litre demi-muid vats for 4 to 5 weeks. It then rests on its own lees for about 10 months with light riddling in new French oak barrels.
With Touriga Nacional being the Douro Valley’s variety par excellence, Michel Chapoutier has dared to explore it using the techniques acquired at his family winery in the Rhone. The result is Dos Lusíadas Pinteivera Tinto, a single-variety wine with the structure of the variety and the minerality of the terroir.
