About Derain Mercurey La Plante Chassey

Derain Mercurey La Plante Chassey is a natural red wine from the AOC Mercurey La Plante Chassey, in Burgundy, made from Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris and produced by Dominique Derain.

Dominique Derain is a son of Burgundy who works his small plots following the principles of biodynamics and buys high quality grapes from his friends. He produces powerful wines. They are almost always made by fermenting the whole bunches without destemming a large part of the harvest. In December 2016 he sold his winery to Julien Altaber and Carole Schwab of Domaine Sextant, his two young employees who consider him a maestro.

The grapes for Derain Mercurey La Plante Chassey comes from vineyards that are over 110 years old with clay-calcareous soils at an altitude of about 200 metres. Winemaking takes place in a traditional way, with whole bunches and partially crushed grapes. Once fermented it is aged for between 12 and 18 months in used barrels. Only 3,400 bottles of this unique wine are produced.

Derain Mercurey La Plante Chassey is a natural wine from Burgundy based primarily on Pinot Noir. A fresh and balanced wine that is an expression of its terroir.
2015 Derain Mercurey La Plante Chassey 2015 has notes of red fruit, cherry and spices, with touches of tobacco. On the palate it is smooth and fruity, sustained by a pleasant acidity.
