About Chivite Colección 125 Reserva

In the year 1860, more than two centuries after its founding, the Chivite wineries executed their first wine export. The 125th anniversary of this historic event, which not all companies manage to achieve, is celebrated with the Colección 125, to which Chivite Colección 125 Reserva belongs. 
 
The Legardeta estate, located 40 km southwest of Pamplona, is where this single-varietal tempranillo originates. Despite its location in the northern part of the Iberian Peninsula, it achieves the perfect balance, avoiding overripeness and showcasing a distinct and delightful acidity. Specifically, the vines for Chivite Colección 125 Reserva are planted in relatively infertile soils, under an Atlantic-continental climate, with cool temperatures and moderate rainfall, around 600 mm annually. 
 
The harvest of Chivite Colección 125 Reserva is conducted manually, using small 200-kilogram boxes, always ensuring only the finest clusters are selected. These are then taken to the winery, where they are gravity-fed into 20,000 kg stainless steel tanks. Here, Chivite Colección 125 Reserva undergoes fermentation, with careful temperature control and particular attention to ensuring gentle pump-overs and extractions, aiming to extract the best possible colour, aroma, and flavour. 
 
Finally, once the alcoholic fermentation is complete, Chivite Colección 125 Reserva is further refined through malolactic fermentation and the months it will spend in French oak barrels. Each movement is conducted by gravity, thereby preserving the quality of Chivite Colección 125 Reserva, a red wine that will be remembered as a symbol and benchmark of excellence.
2019
Chivite Colección 125 Reserva 2019 envelops us with its bouquet of ripe black fruits such as plums and blackberries, interwoven with hints of vanilla and black pepper. On the palate, its elegance unfolds in flavours of red berries complemented by nuances of chocolate and tobacco, all framed by velvety tannins and a lingering finish. This red wine exhibits a flawless balance between the ripeness of the fruit and the understated spices, promising a harmonious tasting experience.
 
2017
Chivite Colección 125 Reserva 2017 unveils an elegance that captivates the senses. On the nose, it unfurls ripe black fruit aromas (blueberries, blackberries) interwoven with hints of vanilla and spices, with clove being particularly prominent. On the palate, its silky texture and seamlessly integrated tannins lead to a lingering and harmonious finish. The understated maturity and subtle spiciness render it an exceptional red wine with a distinctive character.
 
2012 Chivite Colección 125 Reserva 2012 is a deep and complex red wine. A very balanced vintage that gives the wine maturity and freshness in equal parts. Intense on the nose, it frankly shows the notes of its ageing with a mineral and slightly fruity background. In the mouth, it harmonious, silky and very long.
2010 Dense, powerful and round tannins. Deep and very persistent.

Dark ruby red, deep. Clean and bright.

High intensity. Notes of ripe black fruit with elegant spicy and roasted undertones. Balsamic, floral and mineral aromas.
2009 Serious and powerful attack with a velvety, warm and very pleasant mid-palate. Dense wine, well-structured by ripe tannins and a well-integrated acidity which give depth. Long and persistent finish. Spiced aftertaste, with a hint of nail, cherry and liquorice.

Beautiful dark ruby red colour. Deep, clean and bright.

Clean nose with a marked intensity, with predominance of ripe black fruit, black plums, blueberry jam, wild blackberries on a background with elegant toasted hints and fine spices. It gains floral, balsamic and mineral nuances when it is opened.
