About Castello Monaci Negroamaro Maru
Castello Monaci Negroamaro Maru is a Negroamaro variety red wine made in the IGT Salento (Puglia) by Castello Monaci.
Castello Monaci is located in Salento, a region along the Adriatic in the “ boot heel” of southeast Italy. The winery, which uses native varieties and the area’s traditional winemaking methods, is built with the typical tuff. An ancient way of working that is even reflected in the mythological names of their wines, Medos, Kreos, Maru and Piluna.
Castello Monaci Negroamaro Maru comes from Maru or Uva negra vineyards. A type of grape that grows in a very balanced manner in Puglia thanks to the intense sunlight that covers the land all day and the constant sea winds from the Adriatic and Ionian. They use sustainable agriculture certified by DNV-GL, a company known worldwide. Each plot is cultivated separately and the harvest happens at night to ensure the best quality of the grapes.
In the winery, the Castello Monaci Negroamaro Maru grapes are carefully selected and then pressed in a cooling system inside thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks. Some of the wine ages for 6 months in French barrels and the rest in stainless steel.
Castello Monaci Negroamaro Maru is a red wine made with the Negroamaro native variety, which although named ‘bitter and black’, actually reveals soft ripe fruitiness.
