About Casa di Baal Marialonga Colli di Salerno

Within popular legends, many cultures feature a common figure whose role is to warn and discipline children through frightening tales. In Hispanic American tradition, for example, La Llorona is a woman who weeps for the loss of her children and occasionally takes disobedient children away. In Mexican folklore, La Mano Peluda is a ghostly hand that captures children who do not follow the rules. In Italy, there is a similar legend with Marialonga, a mysterious woman with long arms who seizes disobedient children who do not heed warnings and recommendations. It is in honour of a time when, if you leaned out from a balcony, railing, or well, an adult would caution you with "Don't lean out or Marialonga will catch you", that the family winery Casa di Baal, located in Salerno, Campania (Italy), presents its wine Casa di Baal Marialonga Colli di Salerno.

Considering that this is a family project of farmers whose wines embody the spirit and tradition of the region, Casa di Baal Marialonga Colli di Salerno is a blend of fiano and falanghina from the estate itself. Vines that are 30 years old planted on soil primarily composed of sand with a slight presence of clay and at 150 metres above sea level. Organic closed-cycle farming is practised, where human, animal, plant, and mineral components have synergistic functions to promote self-sufficiency, sustainability, and natural balance. The harvest is manual in small boxes and immediately transported to the winery. There, the selected and destemmed grapes macerate with the skins for 4 days, and the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are spontaneous. Finally, the wine remains on lees in handcrafted ceramic amphorae for 6 months, then in the bottle.

Resulting from the work of true artisans of wine and the land, Casa di Baal Marialonga Colli di Salerno not only pays homage to a legendary figure who has warned and taught generations but also highlights Casa di Baal's meticulous effort to perfect the art of viticulture over generations.

 

2022

Casa di Baal Marialonga Colli di Salerno 2022 is an orange wine with an intense yellow hue and a slightly cloudy appearance. On the nose, it presents aromas of citrus fruits such as orange and lemon, along with ripe yellow fruits like peach and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is fresh and fruity, with notable persistence and a creamy profile, making it very easy to drink.
