About Calalta Sehnsucht+

There are those who prefer to remain within their comfort zone: they know what they do, excel at it, and consistently succeed in their endeavours. However, if humanity had always operated in such a manner, numerous discoveries, advancements, and wonders would never have come to light. Curiosity and experimentation drive progress, and at the Calalta winery, nestled in the heart of Veneto, Italy, this philosophy resonates in every vine, every barrel, and every bottle.

We find ourselves in Mussolente, a hidden gem of rolling hills at an elevation of 150-200 metres above sea level, surrounded by ancient olive groves, woodlands, and a serene pond reflecting the region's ever-changing skies. Here, the vineyards stretch across the slopes, encompassing a total of 5.5 hectares of land cultivated with love and respect. Nicola and Giulia, the heart and driving force behind Calalta, strive for high-quality wines crafted naturally, free from additives or techniques that alter the pure expression of the grapes and terroir. Each vintage is unique, and every bottle tells its own story.

An example of this relentless pursuit is Calalta Sehnsucht+. A wine made entirely from syrah grapes grown in west-facing vineyards on predominantly calcareous soils with gravel, at an altitude of 200 metres. Its fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and is aged for 8 months in the same material, without filtration or clarification, to preserve the fruit's authenticity. The intriguing and distinctive aspect comes when the wine is bottled with its own must to finish fermenting in the bottle, resulting in a vibrant, fresh, and lively character.

The philosophy of Calalta is clear: to take risks, experiment, and continuously learn. This entire spirit is embodied in Sehnsucht+, a pet-nat that pulses with its own life and requires no embellishments.
