Since the early 19th century, the Rocca family has been settled in this northern part of Italy, specifically in the municipality of Barbaresco, tilling the land with various crops. Of all these, the vineyard was the only one to endure, and in 1978 they began to craft wine under their own name and label – a remarkable achievement. With this modest step for the company, but a significant leap for the family, a new chapter was inaugurated where a distinguished collection of wines would begin to emerge. Each one surpassing the last. Bruno Rocca Barbaresco is the quintessential starting point, one that everyone should experience.
 
The most unassuming of all the reds, yet the one that harbours the most profound expression within. Bruno Rocca Barbaresco is the very embodiment of the D.O.C.G. Barbaresco. Handcrafted, and following methods steeped in a lifetime of experience, at Bruno Rocca the emphasis is on the expression of the terroir from three specific plots: the Fausoni cru, the Currá cru, and the Cristoforo cru (all located in the municipality of Neive). In Bruno Rocca Barbaresco, the clay-limestone soils of the region speak for themselves, forming the ideal foundation for the nebbiolo grape. This indigenous variety finds in the richness of these microelements the perfect conditions for its development. One must understand and know the vineyard intimately, and at Bruno Rocca, they know just how much to ask of it.
 
After several months in the field and manual labor, the physical exertion gives way to the anticipation and patience of the cellar where Bruno Rocca Barbaresco will ferment. This will occur immediately after the harvest, when the grapes arrive at the winery. Here, the finest clusters will be selected, proceeding directly to the destemmer, where the stems are gently separated from the berries. Each plot will be processed separately, transferring the grape must to three distinct fermentation tanks, where the Bruno Rocca Barbaresco must will begin to ferment spontaneously, solely with indigenous yeasts. And here is where the true exercise of patience begins, as according to the regulations of the D.O.C.G. Barbaresco, Bruno Rocca Barbaresco must age for a minimum of 26 months (nine of which in barrels). After this period, the time comes for bottling and to provide the final touch to this red wine, which will neither be filtered nor clarified. Could there be anything more authentic? We doubt it.
