About La Penitencia

La Penitencia is a wine made by Raul Perez in the Ribeira Sacra.

Raúl Pérez has become one of the winemakers of reference in Spain. He works with the Mencia grape variety making great wines of limited production, many of whom have been well received by critics. Penance is made with the grapes and facilities of Guímaro, a small family winery that has wonderful old vines of Mencia. Raúl Pérez has his own winery in Bierzo and also collaborates with various wineries worldwide.La Penitencia is a varietal made with grapes from old Mencia vines almost 100 years old. They are planted in small terraces of slate and granite in the canyon of the river Sil, on steep slopes of a 50 % incline.
The harvest is done manually and the vinification process is carried out traditionally. Raúl Pérez seeks the ultimate expression of the vineyard, using minimal intervention throughout the process. The grape is pressed and fermented with yeast in the vineyard.
La Penitencia ages for 12 months in large French oak barrels of 500 litres. Another wonderful and expressive Mencia by Raul Perez.

2019

La Penitencia 2019 is an exclusive red with limited production. Olfactorily, it is intricate and vibrant, boasting a bouquet of floral, exotic, and succulent aromas. On the palate, it is invigorating and exceedingly delightful, featuring flavors of black olives intermingled with citrus nuances. The tannins are exceptionally refined. The finish is electrifying, protracted, and imbued with a mineral essence. 
2012 A good entrance. Fresh with balanced acidity. Polished tannins and predominance of red fruit.

Dark red with violet hues.
