Champion of Biodiversity and Sustainable Biodynamic Agriculture, Waterkloof is the project run by English sommelier, wine distributor and winemaker Paul Boutinot. This winery started out in 2004 on the south-facing slopes of Schapenberg Hill in the Stellenbosch area of the coastal region of Western Cape (South Africa). Here, the young and talented winemaker Nadia Barnard produces fine, serious and well-structured wines. Productions with an authentic sense of origin that respect the natural life cycle in every process; hence the name of the wine Waterkloof Red Circle of Life.
At 300 metres above sea level and only 4 kilometres from the False Bay coast, the Waterkloof Red Circle of Life wine is based on the Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah varieties. The team is dedicated to preserving the natural vegetation, fauna and flora of the estate by using organic and biodynamic treatments. Old vines swept by the wind from the Atlantic Ocean, whose grapes, once ripe, are selected and harvested by hand. In the winery, the grapes are carefully crushed and then fermented in small wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. Finally, the wine is aged for 4 months in oak barrels before being bottled.
With these vineyards being one of the few in the Cape to have official biodynamic approval and status, Waterkloof Red Circle of Life confirms why the winery is a Champion of Biodiversity and Sustainable Biodynamic Agriculture. A classic style wine with an honest character that reflects the wonders of the South African coast.
2020 |
Waterkloof Red Circle of Life 2020 is a concentrated red wine whose nose reveals all kinds of black forest fruits accompanied by notes of violet flowers and hints of wood. The palate reveals finesse, breadth and structure. A seamless wine with fine tannins and a long, elegant finish. |
