About Vinyes Tortuga Mojo Pin

Vinyes Tortuga Mojo Pin is a natural barrel-aged red wine made with the Garnacha Tinta and Marselan varieties by the Vinyes Tortuga winery in Empordà (Girona).

Vinyes Tortuga is run by Dido and Jurrian. A Dutch couple who, after travelling all over the world, decided to make their dream come true: make their own wines. They bought 9.5 hectares of vineyards planted in the Albera natural reserve (Girona) and, following guidance from winemaker Joan Ramon Escoda, they began to grow organic grapes and produce natural wines without added sulphites. They explain that they seek to transform the grapes into wine in its purest form, without adding or taking away anything.

Vinyes Tortuga Mojo Pin starts life between the Catalan Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea. These are vineyards planted on slate soil and ecologically cultivated using organic and biodynamic techniques and permaculture methods. They also use solar energy from their solar panels use water from a well. Everything is done with the aim of being as sustainable and natural as possible.

Vinyes Tortuga Mojo Pin is the result of different types of maceration. They use carbonic maceration with destemmed grapes, as well as treading whole grapes by foot. Alcoholic fermentation takes place with native yeasts and the wine finally ages in used barrels and stainless steel tanks for 8 months. It is bottled without clarifying, stabilising or adding sulphites.
