About Vietti Brunate Barolo
Wherever the Savoia family went, the red wines of DOCG Barolo accompanied them. So much so that during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when this noble family from northern Italy held the crown of the Apennine country and the Kingdom of Spain, this wine became a hallmark that guaranteed the presence of this family. Today, almost two centuries later, the Barolo no longer travels around the world in the private cellars of kings and queens, but it is still considered one of the great Italian wines (par excellence).
It is impossible to talk about Piedmont and northern Italy without mentioning it; just as it is almost impossible to talk about this region without mentioning Vietti, one of the major producers in the area in which Vietti Brunate Barolo is created. There in the Langhe, specifically in the village of Castiglione Falleto (right at the top), we find this winery founded at the end of the 19th century by Carlo Vietti and his brother. The two brothers were the first to give the terroir the importance it deserves, daring to move away from the nearest vineyards and seeking those where grapes of optimum quality were grown. Initially, this approach was not understood by other winegrowers, but right from the start, Vietti was able to understand the focus that would begin to prevail in viticulture a few centuries later. Currently, the winery has 181 different zones, which were divided in 2010. In one of these, specifically in the Brunate vineyard in La Morra (a nine-minute drive to the north of Barolo), the Vietti Brunate Barolo clusters of grapes are harvested.
It is in this historic site, with a certain renown, that Vietti has been cultivating vines over 54 years old for many years now. The soils in this area, which contain limestone and clay, are fundamental to achieve the inimitable character of the fruit to be processed. The trip between the field and the winery is carried out very rapidly in order to guarantee the grapes remain in good condition and the highest-quality red wines are achieved. This is the only way to ensure that the fermentation gets underway, which lasts about three weeks and takes place in stainless steel tanks. Vietti Brunate Barolo is also gently pressed and undergoes both pre-fermentative (cold) and post-fermentative maceration to extract sufficient colour, aromas and polyphenols to continue its 32 months in barrels. In this context, it should be clarified that polyphenols (which are antioxidant molecules found in plants) are essential during ageing, as they protect the wine and fight against oxidation thereof.
Finally, Vietti Brunate Barolo is bottled without filtration. For years, the red Barolos accompanied the Savoia family. One can imagine that they made them look good wherever they went (they certainly weren't going to bring bad wine). So don’t hesitate. If you want to wine and dine like royalty, try Vietti Brunate Barolo.
