Sclavos Vostilidi Orange is an orange wine (made in contact with the skins). This type of winemaking, where white varieties are treated as if they were reds, can be found in several countries around the world: France, Italy, New Zealand and even Spain. When it comes to Sclavos Vostilidi Orange we must look to Greece, specifically to the Ionian island of Kefalonia, where the Sclavos winery makes this wine. This company, currently run by Evriviadis Sklavos, is a leader in the area. With a century of history (it was founded in 1919), this winery now stands out for its biodynamic approach and for the cultivation of typically Greek native varieties like Vostilidi. In particular, this variety, one of the most original and rare, is cultivated in the P.G.I. Slopes of Enos, in vineyards over 75 years old that are grown completely free of chemicals and pesticides on calcareous, nutrient-poor soils.

This minimal intervention (the pinnacle of biodynamics) is maintained in the winery where Sclavos Vostilidi Orange remains in contact with its skins throughout the winemaking process. To be more precise, Sclavos Vostilidi Orange is fermented in concrete eggs (1,700 litres), which gives it a very special character and flavour. From there, Sclavos Vostilidi Orange is transferred to barrels where it will undergo malolactic fermentation and stay in contact with the lees (dead yeast). Finally, Sclavos Vostilidi Orange is bottled unfiltered and unclarified. A wine that is not suitable for those sensitive to strong emotions!
