About Schieferkopf Lieu-Dit Berg

"Lieu-dit" is a French term used in the oenological sphere to denote a specific geographical designation of a site or plot within a wine-producing region. This designation may signify the unique characteristics of the location and can be pertinent to the quality and character of the wines produced there. Michel Chapoutier, an ardent aficionado of distinctive terroirs, steps out of his comfort zone, leaving the Rhône to craft exquisite rieslings on the Rhine Riverbank. A particularly intriguing area where vines are rooted in a stratum of blue schist, a subsoil hailing from the Precambrian era, bestowing a distinctive minerality.

For instance, Schieferkopf Lieu-Dit Berg is a wine originating from the Berg plot located in the commune of Reichsfeld, within the Alsace region. Here, Michel quickly recognized the terroir's significant mineral potential and set out to create a monovarietal riesling. A wine cultivated organically to preserve the natural balance of the terroir and hand-harvested at the peak of ripeness into 20-kilogram crates. At the winery, it undergoes an extended pressing followed by static cold settling. Subsequently, the extracted must ferments with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature, and finally, the wine matures for 15 months in French oak barrels.

As part of the esteemed Rhône vintner's collection, Schieferkopf Lieu-Dit Berg is a riesling, vibrant, fruit-forward, and brimming with minerality. A true "Lieu-dit" from the Rhine Riverbank that is not to be missed.
