About Sarnin - Berrux Saint-Romain
A négociant or wine merchant is someone who gathers the grapes from producers and winegrowers and turns it into wine under their own name. An important figure who, unlike small farmers with few resources, can gather portions of high quality vineyards, produce great wines and have direct access to buyers. In Burgundy (France), there is also the term “Négociant Haute Coûture” (haute couture merchant). These people are dedicated to finding and acquiring top quality grapes. Two people who fit this description are Jean Pascal Sarnin and Jean-Marie Berrux, two partners who work very well together and have an in-depth knowledge of the terroirs and the work of each vineyard owner. They have been buying certified organic and/or biodynamic grapes to make quality natural wines since 2007.
As champions of sustainable development and respect for the environment, they produce Sarnin - Berrux Saint-Romain, a Pinot Noir from 40-year-old vines planted on limestone and clay soils in the AOC Saint-Romain / Côte-d'Or. The vines are cultivated using biodynamic agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. Then in the winery they undergo a cold skin-contact maceration followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts in conical French oak foudres. Finally, the wine is aged in old 228-litre French oak barrels for 10 months. When the wine is ready, it is bottled without clarifying or filtering and with a total of 15 mg/l of SO2.
Sarnin - Berrux Saint-Romain is a natural gem, made with the utmost respect for the grape and limited intervention. A light, crisp and lively Saint-Romain.
2017 |
Sarnin - Berrux Saint-Romain 2017 is a succulent red wine distinguished by its subtle scents of ripe fruit, herbaceous undertones, and hints of pepper. On the palate, it is vibrant, crisp, and refined. A wine bursting with fruitiness, accompanied by pronounced acidity, a velvety texture, and an extended finish that bears wild and spicy characteristics. |
