Burgundy, one of France’s most prestigious wine regions, has five appellations d'origines contrôlées (AOC) spread throughout the area. The first level of this classification includes all wines containing the word “Bourgogne” on the label. These wines are made from grapes harvested throughout the Burgundy wine region and, both in terms of price and ease of consumption, are designed to be enjoyed immediately after release. Two of the “negociants” who best know how to select the highest quality grapes from the region are undoubtedly Pascal Sarnin and Jean-Marie Berrux, two wine enthusiasts who devote their whole selves to showcasing the purest and most natural expression of the terroir. To this end, they only work with organic and/or biodynamic winegrowers and vinify in a natural way without the use of synthetic additives.
One example of this great work is Sarnin - Berrux Bourgogne Pinot Noir, a wine made from 60-year-old Pinot Noir vines grown on limestone and clay soils and cultivated in a sustainable manner and with complete respect for the environment. The grapes are harvested by hand and when they enter the winery, they are cold macerated in whole clusters. Spontaneous fermentation then begins with native yeasts in cone-shaped oak vats, and finally, the wine is aged in used barrels for 12 months. The wine is bottled unclarified, unfiltered and with a maximum of 15 mg/l of SO2.
Thanks to minimal intervention and maximum respect, Sarnin - Berrux Bourgogne Pinot Noir is a true mirror of the great French terroir. Beautifully bottled old Pommard vineyards.
2019 |
Sarnin - Berrux Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2019 is a supple red wine exuding scents of red berries, hints of wildflowers, and woodland nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied, vivacious, and refined. A wine characterized by its luminous acidity, pronounced tannins, and a lingering, delightful finish. |
