About Radoar Vives Riesling
In the midst of the whirlwind that characterises our daily lives, there are always those who adopt a more reflective, leisurely perspective. Such is the ethos of Slow Food, an organisation established in 1986 by Carlo Petrini as a counter-movement to the industrialisation of nutrition and fast food. Adhering to its core tenets of good, clean, and fair, its wine guide, Slow Wine, rates wines not only based on the product itself but also the philosophy underpinning its production. Here, 'slow' must be understood as an approach that prioritises the creation of wines with respect for the environment, adherence to tradition, and equitable working conditions. One winemaker who embodies this work ethic is Norbert Blasbichler. His Radoar Vives Riesling is a testament to the authenticity of slow wine. Situated in one of the highest vineyards of the Alpine region (at 900 metres above sea level), within the Dolomite mountains and under the name Radoar (meaning "large round field" in the local dialect), he crafts high-altitude organic wines, steeped in ancient tradition and in harmony with the surroundings.
Specifically, Radoar Vives Riesling originates from a mere 0.30 hectares of Riesling vines, over 40 years old, cultivated in accordance with organic certification and biodynamic practices. No systemic chemicals are used, and all work is carried out manually, taking into account the lunar phases at all times. Once the grapes are brought to the winery, they are meticulously selected and gently pressed, and the resulting must spontaneously ferments with indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, it remains on its own lees for a period before bottling.
Being the DOC Südtirol Alto Adige, the smallest and one of the highest appellations in Italy, it is also one where its producers are renowned for their passion and commitment. A veritable slow philosophy that is perfectly encapsulated in this Radoar Vives Riesling.
2018 |
Radoar Vives Riesling 2018 is an aromatic white wine boasting profound scents of ripe white fruit, exotic fruit, and hints of citrus set against a mineral backdrop. On the palate, it is smooth, fresh, and exceedingly delightful. This wine offers a refreshingly crisp acidity, a seamless flow, and a persistent finish with a distinctive saline quality. |
