About Porcupine Ridge Shiraz
Porcupine Ridge Shiraz is a barrel-aged red wine made by Boekenhoutskloof with the Syrah variety in Franschhoek, in Western Cape South Coast (South Africa).
The Boekenhoutskloof winery has played an important part in giving South African winemaking a leading role in recent times. The estate has been worked since 1776 but changed hands in 1993, which is when operations expanded and the focus became a firm commitment to fine wines made with French varieties like Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Porcupine Ridge Shiraz comes from vineyards located in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley in the South African province of Western Cape. These are strains planted in decomposed granite and sandy soil. The vines are cultivated using conventional agriculture with organic treatments and the harvest is carried out at the optimal point of ripeness.
When the Porcupine Ridge Shiraz grapes reach the winery, they are crushed, macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures and the wine ages in French oak barrels.
Porcupine Ridge Shiraz is a red wine that comes from an estate with a large number of porcupines. Which is where the name Porcupine comes from. This wine is a good test of using very few chemical products and is a complex and elegant wine with a thoroughly Rhône style.
2018 | Porcupine Ridge Shiraz 2018 is a juicy red wine with deep fragrances of small black fruits, violet notes and hints of black pepper. On the palate it is flavoursome, balanced and elegant. A spicy wine with integrated acidity and soft, velvety tannins. |
