About Pomum Chardonnay

Pomum Chardonnay is a single-variety white Chardonnay wine made in Columbia Valley, Washington (USA) by Pomum Cellars.
 
 
Although the Pomum Cellars winery lies in the American state of Washington, the people who set up this project are of Spanish origin, from Ribera de Duero, to be precise. Javier Alfonso and his wife, Shylah showcase the authentic expression of the Columbia Valley with limited production artisan wines. 
 
 
Chardonnay is an international white variety that grows very well in Washington state, and especially in the cold Oasis Farm area, in the first American wine growing area of Yakima Valley. Pomum Chardonnay is a good example of how well the variety works here. The vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and limited yields. 
 
 
In the winery, the Pomum Chardonnay grapes are pressed and the resulting must ferments in French oak barrels following the Burgundy tradition. The wine stays in contact with its lees with regular battonage and finally ages for 11 months in 228-litre French barrels (20% new).
 
 
Made in the truest Burgundy style, the Pomum Chardonnay white wine is so well-rounded and versatile that it goes well with many dishes. With a wonderful acidity it is love at first sip.
 
2016 Pomum Chardonnay 2016 is a creamy white wine with aromas of citrus, exotic fruits and stone fruits over a spicy vanilla background. On the palate it is meaty, unctuous and elegant. A wine with well-integrated acidity and a long finish.
