About Partida Creus Garnatxa Negra

Rural areas are usually characterised by low population density. However, in recent years, problems like overcrowding, the economic crisis and covid have given rise to new trends in people movement that show a more populated, diverse and cosmopolitan rural environment. Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Geroz, two architects from Piedmont (Italy), went to Barcelona for work but, tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, they fell in love with the calm and tranquility of the village of Bonastre (Baix Penedès) and in 2001 they decided to start a new self-sufficient life there. Becoming growers of all kinds of local foods, they also decided to recover old vines of local grape varieties and make wines using minimal intervention.

Located in the Bonastre Massif, a protected forest area characterised by its clay and limestone soils, this pair began the research and recovery of forgotten vineyards. And although at first they were considered real Italian madmen in the village, the results of their wines have proved them right. Partida Creus Garnatxa Negra is a single-variety Grenache that is grown by hand with no chemical products that could damage the natural balance of the terroir and the vine. With the help of just his two friends, Orazio and Vincenza (a donkey and a mule), they take meticulous care of the grapes, always watching the plant to see what it needs. In the winery, the wine is vinified with minimal intervention but maximum supervision. After a selection of the best grapes, they undergo a short maceration with stems and are trodden by foot. Alcoholic fermentation then begins with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, where the wine remains for a few months on fine lees before bottling. It is not filtered or clarified, nor is sulphur added in any part of the process.

Wild, smooth and totally natural, Partida Creus Garnatxa Negra is reminiscent of a past. A rural remoteness from the past that is now brought into the present thanks to characters like Massimo and Antonella, two country artisans who trust in nature’s own attitudes with their eyes closed.

Partida Creus Garnatxa Negra 2021 is a smooth red wine with aromas of fresh red fruits, violet notes and spicy hints. On the palate it is fresh, light and slightly wild. A wine with bright acidity, marked tannins and a long, persistent finish.
