About Nicolas Chemarin On the rock again
Although the term "on the rocks" is commonly used in English to refer to an alcoholic drink served over ice, if we translate it literally, it means "upon rock". It is with this sense that Nicolas Chemarin, a rising vintner in Beaujolais (France), introduces us to Nicolas Chemarin On the rock again. This red wine hails from one of the most limestone-rich plots owned by his family in the town of Marchtamp and, through biodynamic farming and natural vinification, he manages to extract remarkable freshness and minerality.
The truth is, when Nicolas decided to follow in his father's footsteps and cultivate the 8 hectares of vineyard in the most respectful manner, he committed to microvinification from the outset. Small plots located between 450 and 560 meters above sea level, with slopes ranging from 35 to 55%, where mechanization is impractical and meticulous manual labor is required. In the case of Nicolas Chemarin On the rock again, it is made from old gamay vines planted on calcareous soil, which yield a very limited harvest. In the winery, always mindful of the lunar phases, the whole bunches of grapes ferment for 15 days at a controlled temperature, without pumping over, in stainless steel vats. It then remains in these same vessels for 10 months before bottling unfiltered, without additives, and without added sulfites.
If anything characterizes Nicolas Chemarin On the rock again, it is the meticulous work of this new generation winemaker. A Vin de France born on calcareous rock, whose minerality, freshness, and precision propel it directly to stardom.
