About Meinklang Weißer Mulatschak
The Somlò region, an area located in the Hungarian Puszta that gets its name from a volcano, has traditionally been a wine region. In general, both their red and white wines were so famous that many pharmacies even offered them as a medicine or remedy for some diseases. These volcanic soils are made up of basalt, loess and sands, which are loose, and perfect for vineyard cultivation. The roots grow deeply, absorbing the minerals. Meinklang Weißer Mulatschak, a coupage of Pinot Gris, Traminer and Welschriesling, is born here.
The team behind it are Anneliesse, Werner and their children, who run Meinklang, an estate in Pamhagen, a village in the southern Austrian state of Burgenland, which borders Hungary. This company lies just a couple of hours from this region, where the grapes ripen perfectly under extreme wind and moderate heat. All the vineyards are biodynamic and manually cultivated, using their own compost (made from their own cow manure) or relying on the rest of the biodiversity (like clover and wild herbs).
Meinklang Weißer Mulatschak is harvested by hand and taken to the winery. The grapes are directly processed and crushed, giving them a grape pulp that macerates for some time (hence its orange colour). After this, the Meinklang Weißer Mulatschak yeasts start to ferment spontaneously in stainless steel tanks, resulting in a unique and special wine. Meinklang Weißer Mulatschak remains in these same tanks during aging and is finally bottled without filtering or clarifying. Undoubtedly a reliable remedy to make everything disappear.
