About Mariotti Uva d'Oro Rosso Frizzante

Until the 1950s, Italian wine production was not regulated by any wine law. It was not until 1963 that the Italian government wanted to bring order by establishing the Denominazioni d`Origine Controllate. However, the system was too rigid and did not guarantee quality. AOCs were often more of an obstacle than a benefit and caused many producers to start working away from the system, focussing on their geographical origin and championing the terroir. One example of this is Giorgio Mariotti, a winegrower who, in 1976, founded “La Bottega del Vino”, an Oenological Centre where he became aware of the typicity of the wines produced in Bosco Eliceo, in the Italian region of Ferrara (Emilia-Romagna). This was exhaustive work that reached its peak when his son Mirco Mariotti took over the family estate and began to produce wines with local varieties and following the Emilia wine tradition.

They have now released one of their more unusual products, Mariotti Uva d'Oro Rosso Frizzante, a sparkling wine made from 100% Fortana grapes (the leading local grape) and part of the IGT Emilia (Emilia-Romagna). This is a frizzante made through a strict manual harvesting, then when the grapes reach the winery, they are destemmed and gently pressed before being macerated with the pomace for about 10 days. Spontaneous fermentation lasts about two weeks and then it is kept in concrete tanks until the second fermentation. This happens over about 75 days with selected yeasts and then the wine finally undergoes a 60-day bottle refinement before release.

Considering this wine is made with the best grapes from the Emilia region and then vinified with great care, Mariotti Uva d'Oro Rosso Frizzante is a clear example of the unique characteristics of the IGT Emilia. A lively and dynamic frizzante that will brighten up any moment.
