About Louis Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos

In the AOC Chablis, there is a unique Grand Cru spread across no fewer than 7 vineyards. With a total of 26 hectares, this is an exceptional terroir that spreads over a hillside, from top to bottom, enjoying the sun from noon to night. With a relatively steep slope and varied soil due to its large size (stones and limestone in the upper part and deep and clayey in the lower part), it includes plots planted with vines before 1267. Under the name “Les Clos”, a name that refers to the stone walls that used to mark the property boundaries to protect them from intruders, they are known for producing powerful, long-living wines with significant aging potential. Someone who knows this Cru very well is the Moreau family. This family has been linked to Chablis wines since 1814, and they have vineyards in every denomination: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Premiers Crus and Grands Crus. So it is not surprising that they also have a little piece of the legendary Grand Cru Les Clos.

Louis Moreau, the sixth generation of Domaine Louis Moreau, studied and gained experience in California, returned home to make the most of the family property and strives to showcase the unique characteristics of the denomination’s most important Cru. Louis Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is a single-variety Chardonnay wine that comes from these superb soils and is grown in a traditional way. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested and taken straight to the winery. There, the grapes are selected, destemmed and gently pressed and the resulting must is vinified in stainless steel tanks for 18 months in order to maintain its elegance and finesse.

Following a minimal intervention philosophy, Louis Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is pure, mineral and powerful. A wonderful wine for aging from one of the most famous vineyards in Chablis that is also a pleasure to enjoy young.
