Characteristics Justinos Rich 5 Years

Justinos Rich 5 Years is a Touriga variety fortified wine made by Justinos Madeira in the DOP Madeira.

Justinos Madeira was founded in 1870 by Justino Henrique Freitas. It is a family business that has held onto its winemaking philosophy so well over the years that it is now one of the oldest wineries with the highest number of the most prestigious Madeira fortified wines in the world.

Justinos Rich 5 Years comes from vineyards lying on small, sloping terraces. These vines are planted in volcanic soils in a mild climate. The vines are trained with a Latada system forming the horizontal wire structures and these are supported by iron or wooden posts. They use traditional agriculture and harvest manually over several weeks depending on how ripe the grapes are, selecting them according to quality.

When the harvest is finished, the Justinos Rich 5 Years grapes are completely destemmed and vinification begins with skin contact maceration. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a constant temperature and with reassembly. Fermentation is stopped after 2 or 3 days by adding a 96% grape spirit. It is then placed into stainless steel tanks for 3 months, at a controlled temperature (45 to 50°C) and with reassembly. Finally, the wines age in oak barrels for a minimum of 5 years.

Justinos Rich 5 Years is a wonderful Madeira from one of the region’s oldest wineries. Elegant, rich, full of nuances and almost impossible to resist.
