About Domaine Fumey Chatelain Trousseau Le Bastard
The winegrower is at the mercy of the weather. Climate conditions have a significant impact on vine cultivation and, therefore, on the production of grapes for winemaking. So when Raphaël Fumey and Adeline Chatelain saw their production affected by a terrible frost in 1991, they decided not to sell the few grapes they had left and make their own wines instead. This project began by borrowing the facilities of friends’ companies and ended with the establishing of their own winery in Montigny-lès-Arsures, in the Jura (France). Now their son Marin has got involved and they have 17 hectares of vineyards on their property, which allows them to produce cheerful, delicious wines with good value for money.
One of the wines produced at this family estate, Domaine Fumey Chatelain Trousseau Le Bastard, is a single-variety Trousseau from two single plots whose soils are composed of schistose marl. They are cultivated using organic practices and biodynamic treatments, and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the winery, the selected grapes macerate for 20 days and then the must ferments with native yeasts for 2 weeks. Then the wine ages for 11 months in stainless steel tanks and is bottled without filtering or clarifying.
Included in the AOC Arbois, Domaine Fumey Chatelain Trousseau Le Bastard is a crisp and expressive wine that showcases the native Trousseau variety (also called Bastard in the Jura) exactly as it is. A wine that expresses all the energy of the Jura, the result of each year’s climate conditions.
2021 | Domaine Fumey Chatelain Trousseau Le Bastard 2021 is a smooth red wine with aromas of small red fruits, violet notes and spicy hints. On the palate it is delicate, smooth and deep. An easy to drink wine with refreshing acidity and a long, silky finish. |
