The son and grandson of brandy merchants, Olivier Bernard started very young in the world of wine. At the age of 18 he opened his first wine store and in 1983 his father and brothers bought Domaine de Chevalier, in Graves (Bordeaux) and suggested he manage the estate. Under the direction of Claude Ricard, former owner of Chevalier and great winegrower, he began his adventure as a winemaker and now he is involved in several projects at the same time. One of them, Clos de Lunes, produces a great dry white wine in a terroir shared with the best vineyards of Sauternes.
Made from the 79-hectare vineyard located in Château d'Yquem and Château Guiraud, Clos de Lunes Lune d'Argent is a white wine made from the Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc varieties. These vines are planted in deep gravelly, clay-limestone and red earth soils of Barsac that are organically cultivated to maintain the natural balance of the terroir. In the winery, the grapes are selected and destemmed and then fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine is aged for 6 months, 1/4 in French oak barrels and the remaining 3/4 in stainless steel tanks.
Although the Sauternes area is world famous for its sweet white wines, Clos de Lunes Lune d'Argent stands out from the rest. A dry, fresh and mineral white wine where Olivier Bernard showcases the power of Bordeaux.
Clos de Lunes Lune d'Argent 2020 is an aromatic white wine with a generous nose of acacia flowers, notes of white fruit and hints of citrus. The palate is full, smooth and silky. A wine with good tension, crisp acidity and a very pure mineral salinity.
