About Chakana Los Cedros

In a secluded corner of the Uco Valley (Mendoza, Argentina), where cedars silently guard the vineyards and birds dance over the reflection of a glacial lake, a red wine is born that honours the land, time, and Andean tradition. Its name evokes a place teeming with life, deep roots, and history in motion: Chakana Los Cedros. Here, in this loamy-sandy soil with calcareous gravel, fruit trees once thrived. Today, in their stead, matures a pure expression of the country's flagship variety, the malbec grape, as if nature had chosen to reinvent itself in the form of wine.
 
The Chakana winery, established in 2002, draws inspiration from the Andean worldview and the celestial cross of the Chakana: a symbol of unity, balance, and respect for the earth's rhythm. Its philosophy—mindful, reciprocal, and profoundly spiritual—is reflected in every detail of its work, from biodynamic agriculture to unadulterated winemaking. This approach seeks not just to create wines, but to honour a living system where the vine, the environment, and people nourish one another.
 
The malbec grapes used to produce Chakana Los Cedros are hand-harvested in the cool mornings of March. Spontaneous fermentation, without added yeasts, occurs in concrete vats, and the ageing takes place in these same vessels and in untoasted German oak barrels for about 10 months. The wine is vegan certified, unfiltered, and retains its natural acidity, respecting the purity of the fruit and its surroundings to the fullest. 
 
Chakana Los Cedros is a declaration of integrity and respect for life. Its flavour evokes the freshness of the valley and the depth of time. Beyond ideal pairings, this red wine is an invitation to reconnect with the essential.
