About Bernabeleva Camino de Navaherreros

The bear, that grand lord of the forest, has always been a symbol of strength, fertility, and, naturally, familial protection. In mythology, even goddesses like Artemis, the goddess of the hunt, the moon, and wild animals, are depicted accompanied by this majestic creature. At Bernabeleva, neither the name of the winery nor its logo is coincidental: it means "where the bear lives" and depicts Artemis with this animal, in homage to the ancient forests.

Although it was founded in 1923 by Vicente Álvarez-Villamil, it was in 2007 that his great-grandchildren took the reins, with the guidance of the esteemed Raúl Pérez, and began crafting wines in a very special way: respecting the land and using indigenous varieties such as garnacha tinta, albillo, and moscatel.

As a result of the diverse terroirs found in the locality of San Martín de Valdeiglesias (Madrid), Bernabeleva Camino de Navaherreros is a garnacha crafted from vines aged between 25 and 80 years, planted on granitic soils at an altitude of between 600 and 830 metres above sea level. The harvest is conducted by plots and, in the winery, they are also vinified and aged separately. Initially, the grapes undergo maceration for 25 days with a proportion of whole clusters in a combination of stainless steel, concrete, and large wooden vats. Subsequently, the wine ages for about 10 months in steel and large barrels before being bottled without filtering or stabilising.

Bernabeleva Camino de Navaherreros is a wine that embodies the strength and purity of its land, much like the animal that inspires its name. And like any good lord of the forest, it knows how to captivate with its character and personality, yet also with a surprising softness and elegance. A true discovery!

Bernabeleva Camino de Navaherreros 2023 boasts an elegant and fresh aromatic profile. On the nose, it reveals a bouquet of wild herbs and red floral notes, contributing a sense of freshness. On the palate, it is a medium-bodied wine with a light texture, making it remarkably easy to drink. The flavours of vibrant red fruits, such as strawberries and raspberries, are interwoven with a hint of rooibos tea and a subtle whisper of pomegranate, delivering a smooth and pleasant finish.
