About Azienda Agricola Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo
Not in three lifetimes could we sufficiently express our gratitude to Rino Sottimano for the wines he has bestowed upon us. With Azienda Agricola Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo, he has achieved a novel interpretation of this grape variety. Impressive, isn't it?
There are more interpretations of the nebbiolo grape than there are days in the year. This indigenous variety from northern Italy is one of the most widely vinified, manifesting in hundreds of expressions ranging from the most agreeable to the truly outstanding. Among these, Azienda Agricola Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo stands out as an immensely complex red wine; but what makes this particular red so exceptional? Specifically, Azienda Agricola Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo is cultivated on calcareous soils with sandy streaks at a high altitude, achieving a distinctive profile that sets it apart. This unique terroir is the Basarín vineyard, a plot of 3.7 hectares—just a stone's throw from the town of Neive—and is considered a historic vineyard within the D.O.C. Langhe Nebbiolo. Its prestige and quality are well-established, and only the relative youth of its vines (around 15 years old) prevents it from achieving its own appellation. However, as the wise often say, all things come with time. And we are confident that this milestone is on the horizon.
All the grapes and clusters from Azienda Agricola Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo are meticulously selected by hand and swiftly transported to the winery, where the enchantment begins. In this regard, Azienda Agrícola Sottimano is known for its minimal intervention, starting in the vineyard with the elimination of all chemical products. Only in this way can Azienda Agricola Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo fully express the essence and character of the terroir, unmasked by any additives. At Azienda Agrícola Sottimano, all fermentations occur naturally using indigenous yeasts, followed by an extensive maceration period during which the Azienda Agricola Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo remains in contact with the skins for an extended time. This process endows the wine with a fuller body, priming it to withstand the minimum one-year aging period that the D.O.C. Langhe Nebbiolo stipulates for barrel maturation.
So, let us raise our glasses to Rino Sottimano and his Azienda Agricola Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo! Long live the winemakers who make history!
2021 |
Azienda Agricola Sottimano Langhe Nebbiolo 2021 unveils itself as a red wine that captivates with a harmonious interplay between spices and fruits. On the nose, it unfurls an aromatic kaleidoscope dominated by ripe cherries and strawberries, interwoven with subtle hints of rose petals and refreshing touches of mint. Upon tasting, its understated maturity becomes apparent, offering a medium body that is balanced with flavors of licorice and a lingering fruit concentration. This Nebbiolo is a definitive choice for savoring the opulence of Northern Italy.
