About Avondale Samsara
Samsara is a concept that comes from the Indian religions. It means “to flow” and refers to a form of cyclical existence linked to death, rebirth and suffering; the form it takes, the well-known Celtic Tree of Life, represents the invisible threads that connect all the elements of the world. The roots descend to the world of the dead and connect with the ancestors, the trunk represents the earth where we live on now and the leaves rise up towards the divine and spiritual level. In the same spirit, the Avondale Estate, a winery in the Coastal Region of South Africa, produces Avondale Samsara. A wine that, following the concept of “Terra Est Vita”, which means “The soil is life”, not only promotes healthy and balanced vineyards, but also guarantees minimal intervention and maximum personality.
Avondale Samsara is made from 100% Syrah grapes from vines averaging about 15 years old that are organically cultivated and provide low yields for healthy, balanced fruit. Once the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested early in the morning to maintain organoleptic qualities. In the winery, 15% are vinified in whole bunches and the rest is gently destemmed. Fermentation is natural with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks and post-fermentation maceration lasts 25 to 30 days. The wine is then aged in 225-litre French oak barrels that have been used 1, 2 or 3 times. This is also where malolactic fermentation takes place with the wine spending 12 and 16 months here. Finally, it is lightly filtered before bottling.
Power, depth and concentration. Avondale Samsara is a wine with character that this WO Paarl winery uses to represent the ongoing renewal and revitalisation of the life on the estate. A renewing force to enjoy on special occasions.

Avondale Samsara 2012 is a richly concentrated red wine exuding scents of red berries, violet undertones, and hints of orange zest, white pepper, and oak. On the palate, it is fruit-forward, profound, and delectable. A full-bodied wine with seamlessly integrated acidity, robust tannins, and extraordinary persistence. |
