About Albert Bichot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes de Pinot Noir
At first, talking about Burgundy can seem a bit overwhelming. This area of central France has one of the longest and most elaborate classifications that can overwhelm novice sommeliers and winemakers. So, to stop this happening to you, here are two pieces of advice: 1) Don’t get overwhelmed, 2) Start trying different things bit by bit. To make this easier, why not start with the Albert Bichot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes de Pinot Noir? Read on to find out why.
Albert Bichot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes de Pinot Noir is a single-variety Pinot Noir made by the legendary Albert Bichot winery in the A.O.C. Bourgogne. This denomination, the main one in the area, is a regional classification that guarantees that wines have been made from grapes grown in this region of east-central France. So, without having to resort to Grand Cru denominations, Albert Bichot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes de Pinot Noir guarantees a direct introduction to Burgundy excellence and quality.
And we don’t recommend hesitating over a bottle of Albert Bichot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes de Pinot Noir, given that the label is signed by one of the world’s winemaking greats. The Albert Bichot of today is the result of a whole line of winegrowers and merchants, whose first dealings with wine date back to 1214. This family has had plenty of time to acquaint themselves with the whole production process. They own more than 100 hectares (divided in six areas spread across the region) where everything is cultivated in a totally respectful way. To make Albert Bichot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes de Pinot Noir, the grapes come from the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, from vineyards aged between 25 and 30 years old that have been skillfully cultivated in line with the different exposures and altitudes. All of these factors, which can make things a little more complicated in the vineyard, are transformed into great complexity and rich aromatics and flavours that must be gently handled and respected during vinification. And to make sure they alter what has developed in the vineyard as little as possible, Albert Bichot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes de Pinot Noir is racked by gravity and fermented in thermoregulated conical oak and stainless steel vats and then rests in oak barrels and vats for 18 to 22 months.
So don’t make things too difficult for yourself, and start with Albert Bichot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes de Pinot Noir. We can guarantee that this is just the beginning of a delightful journey through Burgundy.
