More about Señorío de San Vicente

Señorío de San Vicente is a very special winery. A winery that shows a real belief in the roots of La Rioja: they make just one wine with grapes from a single vineyard, using a grape variety practically extinct nowadays, the tempranillo peludo.

HISTORY OF THE WINERY
Señorío de San Vicente winery is situated in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a small town in the heart of La Rioja where all the activity revolves around wine.
The winery belongs to the Eguren family, natives of La Rioja who for five generations have devoted themselves to winemaking. Sierra Cantabria, Dominio de Eguren and Teso la Monja are some of the most famous wineries owned by this family.

But Señorío de San Vicente is a special project. From the start, the Eguren family has opted for tradition, for a return to the roots of La Rioja. An appreciation of the land and its fruits.
It was in 1985 that Guillermo Eguren started planting his estate with the native variety practically extinct today: the tempranillo peludo.

Six years later, in 1991, the winery was officially opened and they started making what would be their first vintage of this marvellous red wine known as San Vicente.

PHILOSOPHY OF WORK
The Eguren family, and especially Señorío de San Vicente winery have always had a clear objective: to give top priority to quality over profitability.
All of the grapes come from a single estate of 18 hectares, La Canoca, at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria. The only variety they grow is the tempranillo peludo, the native grape of the area that is practically extinct today because of its low yield.
The clayey-calcareous soils and a ripening period with strong variations in temperature between day and night make this estate the perfect place to grow high quality vineyards.

The harvest is completely manual, selecting only the perfectly ripe bunches by carrying out two selection processes.
The wine is aged in new French and American oak barrels for 20 months, with racking every four months.
SEÑORÍO DE SAN VICENTE WINES
Señorío de San Vicente winery only makes one wine, San Vicente. A great red wine from La Rioja that demonstrates the full force of the land and the expression of the tempranillo peludo variety.
