Viña Tondonia Reserva is a red wine produced by the Viña Tondonia winery in the D.O.Ca Rioja. The winery is situated in Haro (Rioja Alta), one of the most prestigious and privileged areas for the cultivation of vines in Spain. Viña Tondonia is a historic winery, the first in Haro and the third in la Rioja. The quality of their wines is a true testament to their 137 history.
This wine is a blend of four different grape varieties: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo. The grapes come from a low yield vineyard on the Viña Tondonia estate. The well-known Riojan estate spans across 100 hectares and borders the river Ebro as it passes through Haro. Viña Tondonia is considered one of the most spectacular estate in Haro, composed of alluvial, limestone and poplar.
The harvest is carried out manually during the month of October. Viña Tondonia Reserva is aged for 6 years in oak barrels from the wineries own cooper, and undergoes 2 rackings per year. Finally the wine is clarified using fresh egg from the estate, and is bottled without being filtered. The wine then spends at least 6 months in the bottle before being placed onto the market.
Viña Tondonia Reserva serves a great example of the classic Riojan style.

In La Rioja there are large wineries and also great wineries. A handful of them are century-old, some are very well-known, some are actually quite small. We must not forget family-run wineries and the abundant harvester's wineries or "cosecheros". Viña Tondonia is many of those things, besides being a winery that has been run by the same family since its origins. Through four generations and despite the continuous and tempting offers of multinationals, for a hundred years, R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia is still a single-family winery. Here, the four generations that have directed it have continued with the philosophy and the social and work principles set by its founder more than 139 years ago.
