Viña Mayor Verdejo is a white wine produced by the winery Caserío de Dueñas, in Villaverde de Medina, D.O. Rueda.

Caserío de Dueñas is the winery that produces Rueda wines for the brand Viña Mayor. It belongs to Grupo Bodegas Palacio 1894, a large winegrowing company that manages more than 1200 hectares in 5 denominations of origin.

This winery is located in an farm that has more than 300 hectares of vineyards in one of the top quality areas of the D.O. Rueda.  At the head of the production process is Almudena Alberca. She is an oenologist who is part of the current generation of Spanish oenologists with an international outlook.

Viña Mayor Verdejo is a wine that is produced with Verdejo and a small percentage of Sauvignon Blanc, both from vineyards that are over 60 years old. They are harvested at night to take advantage of the lower temperatures and preserve all their aromatic potential. Once the harvest arrives at the winery, and after it goes through a soft stomping process, it ferments in stainless steel deposits at a low temperature. Here, the harvest is left for 2 months on its fine lees.

Viña Mayor is one of the great and exemplary wineries in Ribera del Duero. It belongs to Grupo Hijos de Antonio Barceló, now converted into the Grupo Bodegas Palacio 1894. Since its creation, over the years Viña Mayor has established itself as a benchmark wine brand in one of the leading denominations of origin in Spain. Located on the so-called ‘golden mile’, its iconic and contemporary wines are based on a wise oenological tradition applied to modern winemaking technology. Nowadays, the wines from Viña Mayor are an international reference and are present in the best gastronomic circuits of 40 countries in the five continents.
When we talking about the Rueda wines, we are often referring to their white wines. The white wines produced in this region are often made with the Verdejo variety, the main variety of Rueda, planted along the Douro River and its tributaries. Rueda white wines often offer lots of floral notes, scrubland low, delicate aromas and a great acidity given by strong temperature differences between day and night. Apart from white wine, Rueda also produces red wine, often made with the Tempranillo variety.
