Viña Ardanza is a red wine produced by the winery La Rioja Alta, in the D.O Rioja.
The winery was established in 1890 from 5 families from Rioja and the Basque country, they are mainly based in the historic Barrio de la Estación de Haro (La Rioja), although from 1996 they have a winery in Labastida (Álava).
Viña Ardanza is produced from Tempranillo (80%) and Grenache (20%).
The Tempranillo vines are 30 years old and originate from the estates: La Cuesta and Montecillo, located in Fuenmayor and Cenicero (La Rioja Alta). The Grenache vines on the other hand, originate from Tudelilla (La Rioja Baja) planted at 600 meters above sea level.
La harvest is completed by hand and transported in refrigerated containers to better conserve the grapes.
Once in the winery the must is fermented at a controlled temperature for 15 days.
The grape varieties are aged separately. Tempranillo is aged for 36 months in American oak barrels, and Grenache for 30 months also in American oak.
The wine is manually racked, up to at least 6 times before being botted.
This wine is nternationally highly rated, year after year by prestigious critics such as Robert Parker and Wine Spectator.
