Villa Matilde Vigna Camarato is a mature red wine with a deep red colour and intense, persistent aromas of red and black berries, notes of black pepper and sensual touches of chocolate, vanilla, coffee and liquorice from the barrel. On the palate it is dry, warm and complex. The mid-palate has an elegance and power that lingers to the end.

Characteristics Villa Matilde Vigna Camarato

Villa Matilde Vigna Camarato is a barrel-aged red wine made with the Aglianico and Piedirosso varieties by Villa Matilde in Campania (Italy).

The Villa Matilde Italian winery was founded in 1960 in the region of Campania (Naples) with the aim of reviving “divine Falerno”, the most famous high-quality wine that was made in ancient Rome at the foot of Vesuvius. Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer with a great passion for this type of wine, moved to the slopes of the Roccamonfina volcano to revive the varieties it was made with. Currently, Villa Matilde is run by his two children who, as well as carrying their father’s legacy, have set up an environmental sustainability project in the winery to reduce pollution.

Villa Matilde Vigna Camarato comes from a vineyard with the same name that lies 150 metres above sea level. It is one of the winery’s oldest and best exposed estates with old strains over 40 years old that are planted in volcanic soil. Their agriculture is respectful to the environment, using low consumption machinery and reusing irrigation water. When the time comes, the harvest is carried out manually, selecting the clusters one by one.

In the winery, the Villa Matilde Vigna Camarato grapes are gently pressed and the resulting must is left to ferment with the skins for 20 days at a constant temperature of 25ºC. It then ages in Allier oak barrels for 12 to 18 months. Finally it rests in the bottle for another 12-18 months before going to market.

Villa Matilde Vigna Camarato is a red wine that is only made in the best vintages. A selection of old vines with exceptional fruit thanks to the unique terroir around the Roccamonfina volcano.
