Characteristics Victoria Diez-Caballero Reserva
Victoria Diez-Caballero Reserva is a red wine produced by the Diez-Caballero winery in the municipality of Elciego (Álava), D.O.Ca. Rioja.
Diez-Caballero is a small family winery with a long tradition in the production of bulk wines, until in 1979 Victoria Cañas, together with her husband, decided to change its focus and start making their wines with the intention of selling them bottled.
Currently heading production are their two sons, Antonio and Victoria Diez-Caballero. To do so they have 25 hectares of vineyard divided into different plots, all distributed around Elciego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. The winery perfectly combines all the new technologies into an architecture with many years of history. The result are honest wines that show us all the character of this magnificent area.
Victoria Diez-Caballero Reserva is a wine made with Tempranillo grapes from the estate’s own vineyards, from small plots in three very old estates. Located at over 500 meters above sea level, on soils that are mostly clayey-calcareous, and over 80 years old.
After harvesting by hand, once in the cellar they ferment with selected yeasts in concrete tanks, with a long maceration. The malolactic fermentation and the 12 months of aging are carried out in French oak barrels.
