Travaglini Nebbiolo Coste Della Sesia

Many villages were affected by industrialisation. Land that had been cultivated by families, generation after generation, was abandoned by the younger family members who went in search of a better future in the city. Fortunately, however, not everyone chose this path and people like Arturo Travaglini took the opportunity to set up their own estate in 1958 in the hills of Gattinara, in a wine region in Upper Piedmont, near Monte Rosa. His son Giancarlo followed in his footsteps and now the third generation carries the legacy with Cinzia and her husband and winemaker Massimo Collaudo.

The Travaglini estate has a total of 52 hectares of vineyards, a vast expanse of land lying at an average altitude of 400 metres above sea level. These vineyards grow in soils characterised by being rich in granite, rocks and iron minerals, providing a certain acidity and a unique reddish colour. One of their most popular wines is Travaglini Nebbiolo Coste Della Sesia, which comes from a selection of pure Nebbiolo grapes from young vines aged between 6 and 15 years old. After a careful harvest, selecting the grapes on the vine, the fruit is taken directly to the winery to begin fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 12-14 days at a controlled temperature. The wine is then refined for 4 months in steel tanks and 10 months in Slavonian oak barrels. Finally, it is bottled and rests for a few more months before being released for sale.

As a result, Cinzia and Massimo present us with Travaglini Nebbiolo Coste Della Sesia, a beautiful young red wine from the DOC Coste della Sesia that knows how to interpret the Nebbiolo, Piedmont’s leading variety, with exquisite skill and a long way from any industrialisation.
