VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer (Mosel)
Steinmetz Piesporter Grafenberg Kabinett is a single-variety Riesling white wine made by Günther Steinmetz in the VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, in the Mosel region (Germany).
This winery came from a very humble beginning, but generation after generation, they have acquired small plots of very old vines that had been somewhat overtaken by olive trees in the Moselle River valley. These plots have now become high quality vineyards. As a result, they have 9 hectares of vineyards around the town of Brauneberg (Germany) and the surrounding areas. This growth has been led by Stefan Steinmetz, who has masterfully combined tradition with modern techniques. So their wines, on the one hand, express the typicity of the terroir and, on the other hand, are made by naturally stopping fermentation, just like local winemakers used to do.
Steinmetz Piesporter Grafenberg Kabinett comes from old vines planted on red slate soil. These are low-yield vineyards cultivated according to organic principles and avoiding chemical fertilisers that could harm the environment. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected in the vineyard itself.
In the winery, Steinmetz Piesporter Grafenberg Kabinett ferments with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. No additives or corrective products are used to mask the wine. Malolactic fermentation happens in parallel to the alcoholic fermentation, allowing these processes to finish naturally, which in some cases leaves small traces of residual sweetness.
Steinmetz Piesporter Grafenberg Kabinett is a white wine made through the perfect combination of respect for tradition and detailed expertise. The result is a refined balance of sweetness and acidity.
Steinmetz Piesporter Grafenberg Kabinett 2017 is an aromatic white wine with clean fragrances of ripe yellow fruit, fine herbaceous notes and expressive touches of mineral slate. On the palate it is lively, fine and elegant. It is very fruity with a pleasant minerality and a sweet and acidic finish.
