Characteristics Solanera

Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product

Solanera is a red wine made by Bodega Castaño in the DO Yecla. It's a blend of Monastrell (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) and Garnacha Tintorera (15%).

The grapes come from vineyards with 44-year-old Monastrell and Garnacha Tintorera vines and 19-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines. These vineyards are planted at an altitude of 750 metres, in chalky soil rich in pebbles, with some sandy and clayey parts.

The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26-28ºC. Solanera ages for 10 months in 80% French and 20% American oak.

A great wine from Yecla with 94 Parker points (2012), all for under €12.

The firmness, will and strength of Ramón Castaño, and his determination to reach maximum quality levels in wines made with the Monastrell variety are his best credentials. The innovative philosophy of the Castaño, improvements in both the winery and the vineyard, as well as the implementation of environmental management systems with organic and integrated agriculture, and the improvement of technical means in the different stages of production, are signs that have been happening harvest after harvest.

The DO. Yecla is currently submerged in the midst of a revolution, led by small private wineries and cooperatives that are fully grasping the cultivation of vineyards and the use of new technologies, working with the star trademark grape: the Monastrell. Over recent years, the region has been producing high quality red wines that have not only built a strong reputation, but are also leading the way for a great future. D.O Yecla is without a doubt one of the most dynamic Denominaciónes de Origen. The region also boasts a strong export market, with 95% of its products sold outside of Spain, with their wines enjoyed by over 40 countries throughout the world.
